What Insider Express collects, how we use it — including for advertising, marketing and commercial partnerships — who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Last updated 14 October 2026
The short version. We collect the usual technical data every website gets, plus whatever you give us when you sign up. We use it to run the site, to show and measure advertising, to send you marketing (ours and, with your consent, our partners'), and to earn revenue — including by sharing or licensing contact and usage information with partners where you have agreed to that. You can opt out of marketing at any time and can ask what we hold about you. Public records about politicians, lobbyists, recipients of public money and political donors are published by law and are handled separately (section 7).
1. What we collect
- Information you give us. Email address, phone number, name, and any preferences, interests, portfolio or watchlist details you enter when you create an account, subscribe to alerts or a newsletter, enter a promotion, respond to a survey, or contact us. If you use Sign in with Google, Google gives us the name and email address on that Google account and we store them; we never receive your Google password.
- Information collected automatically. IP address, approximate location derived from it, device and browser type, operating system, language, referring page, pages viewed, links and ads clicked, time on page, searches, and identifiers set by cookies, pixels, local storage and similar technologies — from us and from the third parties described in section 4.
- Information from others. Data we receive from advertising and analytics providers, data partners, social platforms (if you connect one), and public sources, which we may combine with what we already hold.
2. How we use it
- To provide, personalise, secure and improve the site, alerts, newsletters and other products, and to remember your settings.
- To deliver, target, cap and measure advertising and sponsored content, on Insider Express and on other sites and apps.
- To send you service messages, and — where you have consented — marketing from Insider Express, Blackcomb Analytics Inc. and selected third-party partners, by email, SMS or push notification.
- To build audience segments, statistics, models and insights, and to develop new commercial products.
- To detect abuse, enforce our terms, and comply with the law.
3. Sharing, selling and licensing
We share personal information, and may sell, rent or license it (including email addresses and other contact details together with related interest and usage data), in the following ways:
- Advertising and marketing partners — advertisers, ad networks, exchanges, sponsors and marketing partners, so they can show you advertising on and off Insider Express and measure it, and so that partners you have consented to hear from can contact you.
- Data and list partners — where you have given express consent (for example by ticking a box at sign-up or in your account settings), we may provide your contact information and related data to third parties for their own marketing and commercial purposes. Those parties handle your information under their own policies.
- Service providers — hosting (Cloudflare), email and SMS delivery, analytics, payment processing, customer support and similar vendors acting on our instructions.
- Aggregated or de-identified data — statistics, audience insights and derived datasets that do not identify you, which we may publish, license or sell without restriction.
- Legal and corporate — where required by law, subpoena or a government authority; to protect rights, safety or property; and in connection with a merger, financing, sale of assets or similar transaction, in which case your information is among the transferred assets.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and our marketing is directed at adults.
4. Cookies, advertising technology and analytics
We and third parties — including advertising networks, data partners and analytics providers — use cookies, pixels, SDKs, local storage and device identifiers to recognise your browser, remember your choices, measure traffic, and deliver and measure interest-based advertising across sites and apps. Our emails contain a small image and tracked links that tell us whether an email was opened, which links were clicked and whether it was forwarded; we use this to improve the newsletter. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used; Google receives your IP address and a browser identifier, and you can opt out with Google's browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). Company logos are loaded from third-party logo services, which receive a normal image request. You can control cookies through your browser settings and, for interest-based advertising, through the opt-out tools offered by the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada (youradchoices.ca) and by the networks themselves; blocking cookies may affect how the site works.
5. Your choices
- Marketing email and SMS: every message carries an unsubscribe link or STOP instruction; you can also change preferences in your account or by contacting us. We will honour a withdrawal of consent promptly, though partners who already received your information under a prior consent may keep contacting you until you unsubscribe from them directly.
- Sharing with third parties for their own marketing: you can decline at sign-up and withdraw consent at any time by contacting us; we stop sharing from then on.
- Interest-based advertising: see section 4.
- Access, correction and deletion: you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for your account and contact details to be deleted. We respond within 30 days, subject to legal retention obligations.
6. Retention and security
We keep account and contact information for as long as you have an account or a subscription and for a reasonable period afterwards; technical logs for as long as needed for security and diagnostics; and aggregated data indefinitely. We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards, but no system is perfectly secure. Our providers may store data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it is subject to local law.
7. Public records about people
Insider Express publishes information that Canadian law already makes public: insider trades filed with SEDI, elected officials' ethics disclosures, communications in the Registry of Lobbyists, government contracts and grants, and political contributions of $200 or more reported to Elections Canada. We show donors' names and municipality as Elections Canada publishes them, not full addresses or postal codes. This information is processed for journalistic and research purposes; the choices in section 5 apply to information about you as a visitor or subscriber, not to public filings, which must be corrected with the body that published them. If our reproduction of a record is wrong, or you have a lawful basis to ask us to remove something, contact us and we will respond promptly. Publishing a disclosure is not an allegation that anyone has done anything wrong. We do not sell, rent or bulk-export the personal information in these public records.
8. Changes and contact
Insider Express is operated by Blackcomb Analytics Inc., which is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. We may update this policy by posting a new version here with a new date. Privacy questions, access requests and consent withdrawals: info@blackcombanalytics.com.
